The VCF provides payment for certain conditions that are automatically assumed to be related to the 9/11 attacks if the victim can prove he or she was in certain areas during a specific time period. The New York City Exposure Zone includes the portion of Lower Manhattan south of the line that runs along Canal Street from the Hudson River to the intersection of Canal Street and East Broadway, north on East Broadway to Clinton Street, and east on Clinton Street to the East River. In order to qualify for compensation for your illness or injury, you must be able to prove that you were in the exposure area at some point from Sept. 11, 2001, through May 20, 2002. You may have been a resident of the area, a rescue worker, a clean-up worker, an office worker, or a student. Every day since the Sept. 11 attacks, Eddie Marcowitz has dedicated his legal career and his life to helping survivors. He advocated for the set-up of the original September 11 Victim Compensation Fund and was instrumental in the lobbying effort to re-open the fund in 2010 through the Zadroga Act. He originally spearheaded the pro bono effort to recover $280 million for 63 widows and hundreds of firefighters as part of the Trial Lawyers Care project. Since then, he has gone on to successfully handle more than 1,000 claims for compensation for victims of the attacks.
Eddie founded the Marcowitz Law Firm with the goal of providing one-on-one attention to survivors who have been diagnosed with 9/11-related cancers and other illnesses.
